  At The Office

1.   At our state-of-the-art pulmonary function laboratory, we perform a
      Pulmonary Function Test (PFT), which is frequently helpful in diagnosing
      asthma and other pulmonary conditions.  Some useful definitions that
      may help you understand what these tests measure:

• Ventilation is the process whereby the lung delivers fresh air containing oxygen to the blood stream

• Total Lung Capacity (TLC) is a measure of the total volume of air in the lungs

• Forced Vital Capacity (FVC) is the rate at which air can be expelled from the lungs

     These tests are made to plot the expiratory rates against lung volumes
      to produce a flow-volume curve.
